Lillian Too vs Joey Yap: my Paht Chee / Ba Zi world in disarray!
… so I’ve been providing free Paht Chee / Ba Zi analyses for interested readers, with the qualifier that I’m no expert, and that whatever I produce is only to the best of my ability.

After all, I’m still learning, and doing what I can while referring to the one book I have on the subject: Lillian Too’s Eight Characters Chinese Personal Forecasting.
Lillian Too is the reason Feng Shui gained so much prominence in Malaysia and the region. She had the right timing, right product, etc, and very quickly made a name for herself in the Feng Shui arena. Thing is, she commercialised it so much that even for someone who didn’t follow it all, I couldn’t help but form an opinion that her version of Feng Shui sure involved buying a lot of figurines and such that, hey what a coincidence, she happened to be selling for only xxx bucks!
Soon after, another person rose to prominence: Joey Yap. Again, not being one who really paid attention to this scene, even I couldn’t help but hear over and over again that he was a much better Master than Lillian Too.
So why did I go with a Lillian Too book? Because at the time, my mentor in this area was using it, so I set aside my reservations about Lillian Too vs Joey Yap, and went ahead and got myself what my mentor was using. …

… and of course, by now, my mentor has matured into the Joey Yap school of thought, and has urged me to do the same.
As such, I am currently going through Joey Yap’s BaZi The Destiny Code Revealed - Delve Deeper into the Four Pillars of Destiny.
I can immediately say that his style is definitely more easily understood. It’s less chatty than Lillian Too’s, but at the same time a lot more comprehensive and better presented, better discussed, better explained. There’s a WHOLE LOT of stuff that doesn’t even appear in Lillian Too’s book!
I am having information overload, however.
Worse, I am faced with the fact that Lillian Too’s charts may not be correct, therefore throwing my past readings into some disarray. Compare the Eight Characters / Four Pillars chart for this week’s querent, Ms Toth:

.
Do you see it? Yes, there’s a lot more information in the right hand version, but that’s not the issue. Do you see it? No? Okay, look at the Month pillar. Totally different!!! Joey Yap provides an explanation here, if you would like to read it: it’s essentially about a mistake in transitioning from the Chinese solar calendar to the Gregorian calendar. It’s all kinda above my head, but I am inclined to go with the Joey Yap version. And I am utterly irritated by this discrepancy.
I’ll forge on, but if you’re waiting on a Paht Chee / Ba Zi analysis, be patient, k? I don’t want to churn one out for the sake of churning it out; I’d rather take a little bit more time to digest the new info better before taking a stab at the charts.
Fun!
