Deck used: Doreen Virtue’s  Ascended Masters Oracle Cards

Jen, who blogs over at Dark Passenger, recently requested a reading, stating “I’ve got some changes going on in my professional and spiritual lives right now so I guess my questions center around those… but if the cards want to tell me something else then I’m open to hearing it.”

This gave me a lot of leeway in terms of how to word any questions I would pose. I ended up asking two questions to start with, figuring Jen and I would then be able to pinpoint more specific questions, depending on what the cards indicated.

First, the summary:

It seems as if love and sensuality have played a part in your immediate past that now results in the changes in your professional and spiritual lives.

Right now, it would be beneficial for you to literally detach yourself from the drama surrounding you. Step back and observe what is going on; feel compassion for people in the “drama”; but don’t get sucked in. In addition, you might benefit from either working with crystals, or with horses*.

Successfully navigating the present, you should then be able to not just identify your true priorities, but to make time for them. In fact, it looks as if you will find the resolve in you to step beyond the rules imposed — whether by you or by others — onto yourself, to pursue what you really want.  Freedom awaits you.

* I know, I know.. “either crystals or horses”?? Well, I didn’t get a good feel for that one card, and it can signify either… so it’s up to Jen to see which resonates more with her own self.

Question 1: What impact can Jen expect as a result of the changes in her professional life?

Spread:  3 cards

Past:  Jesus / Open your heart to Love
Present:  Epona / Crystals
Future:  Hina / Freedom

Interpretation 1:
A strong message of love, compassion and forgiveness appears in the immediate past that directly impacts your current situation.  Not necessarily romantic love, this can mean love for your fellow man, or just a letting go, allowing yourself to give as well as receive love. Somehow, the changes in your professional life might have arisen from what is described here.

Epona, the goddess of horses appears in your Present, signifying what you need to know or work on right now in relation to the changes in your professional life.  Her presence indicates, among other things, the need for you to be with horses; another main interpretation for this card is the need for you to enhance yourself with crystals.  Whichever resonates more with you, that’s what you should put your attention on at this moment.

If you follow the guidance of the Present card, your immediate future then holds great freedom for you.  Whether you walk away from a draining, stressful situation; or refuse to be encumbered by restrictions placed upon yourself –whether by you or others; or dig within yourself to find what matters most to you; this is a strong and positive card, and overall indicates that whatever you’re going through right now, you will emerge not only much more in touch with what you want, but will take the necessary action to get there.

Question 2: What impact can Jen expect as a result of the changes in her spiritual life?

Spread:  3 cards

Past:  Oshun / Drink more water
Present:  Pallas Athena / Detach from Drama
Future:  King Solomon / Priorities

Interpretation 2:
The sense of the immediate past is one of being parched and needing water. This could be literal thirst, or a more feminine, sensual thirst. So unless you had an ocean, lake or river feature prominently in your immediate past that has lead to the changes you are experiencing in your spiritual life, I take this to indicate something similar to the “Open your heart to love” card above.

Whatever it is that’s happening to you right now, extricate yourself! Literally detach yourself from all the swirling egos, the melodrama, the stress; step back and observe. Are you trying to keep everyone happy? Putting your own life on hold as you try to fix others’? Instead, how about providing empathy for the people around you, yet being detached enough to let them live their own lives, make their own choices?

Successfully following the guidance of the above card, you will then find the space to identify what you want. Your priorities. And once you have these identified, go ahead and make time for them; work towards your goals, even if you need to wake up earlier each day, or have to stop doing other things that distract you from what you really want to, and should, do.

Something I’d like to point out:  The gist of the Past and Future cards from #2 are very similar to those of #1.  I take this to mean that Jen’s professional and spiritual lives are very much intertwined: similar root cause, and similar future.  And depending on how you look at the two Present cards, they can very well work together towards the same end:  I can see how crystal work and horses can, in their own way, help someone get away from the immediate stress facing them, or help someone deal with the immediate stress in a healthier manner.

Neat! 

Bottom line:  What can Jen expect as a result of the changes she’s facing in her professional and spiritual lives?  The opportunity to identify what matters most to her, and the motivation to pursue these priorities.  In order to get there, though, she needs to take time out for herself, to replenish her energy, and get in touch with herself.

[Pulling the cards and interpreting them is one thing… seeing if they actually resonate with, or make sense to the “asker”.. that’s a different story.  I look forward to Jen’s response and feedback; I hope she will share them with us  :)  ]
