It’s always nice when answers without, answers within gets feedback from querents about what jives, or doesn’t, about any reading, whether with oracle cards or the Ba Zi. In Ms Toth’s case, I decided she needed a supplemental post to summarise her chart, since, upon rereading what I’d posted and reading her feedback, I think because that was my first time doing things the Joey Yap way, I was a little overwhelmed myself, and didn’t pull things together very well. My apologies to Ms Toth and other readers!
In the course of our emails, Ms Toth also indicated an interest in getting additional information / clarification in relation to her relationship with her spouse, and children. So let’s do that first.
Looking at all things spouse and some things children

Ms Toth’s Four Pillars / Eight Characters / Ba Zi / Paht Chee |
Being a weak Yang Fire, Ms Toth’s Husband Star is her (unfavourable) Influence factor, i.e. the Water element.
The first thing to do is see if this element is present in her chart, and see what we can say about it…
- Interestingly, three of her Heavenly Stems are Water. Seeing as Water “controls” Fire, and you see Ms Toth’s Yang Fire is essentially flanked by Water, this indicates that in general, Ms Toth might find herself overly-controlled by her husband.
- Additionally, if you recall, Ms Toth was born at a time when Water is strong. This compounds the impact of Water in this chart.
- On top of that, if you peer closely enough at the Hidden Stems, you might recognise a Gui character (Yin Water) under the Ox — this shows that the Water element is strongly “rooted” in this chart, as it appears in the Hidden root all the way up to the Heavenly Stem.
… so there’s a WHOLE lot of Water here … picture Ms Toth as a weakly flickering Sun, struggling to keep alight as she is surrounded by lakes, oceans, waterfalls — tough, right? I read this to mean that Ms Toth is probably not only finding herself in relationships* where she is controlled by her significant other, she also probably resents being in such a situation, and is highly likely to be of a rebellious nature.
(* Of course, Water / Influence is not *only* representing her Husband Star. As that which “controls” the Self-Element, it can also stand for rules and regulations. It can also represent power, rank, recognition, nobility, charisma, authority. And from a health perspective, Water corresponds to ailments of the kidney, water retention, edema. How to know which aspect(s) is actually coming into play, and when? At this point, I’m not sure. But I’ll put it out there, for you to keep in mind!)
So, how to bring balance to her chart, keeping the Spouse aspect in mind?
Well, this is a bit tricky. Firstly, being a weak Self-Element, Ms Toth only has two elements that are favourable for her - Wood and Fire. If you look at Part One, you’ll see that her tally for Wood is a big fat Zero. So should we be adding more Wood somehow? You’d think so, wouldn’t you? … but … remember that as weak as she is, she is still the Sun. How will burning wood help bring out the shine of a celestial body? It doesn’t. Having a Yang Fire Self-Element is special that way.
Let’s instead take a look at the Fire in her chart. Interestingly, the Day Branch, representing the Spouse Palace, is Fire, and Fire is also well rooted in the chart. Well, that’s good. Kinda paradoxical if you think about it, though: “her spouse is overly controlling, thus bringing out resentment and rebelliousness, and yet her spouse is probably good for her, as he helps her shine”.
And in case y’all forgot from Part Two, the Horse and Dog, representing the Spouse and Parents Palaces, are ⅔ of a Fire Frame Three Harmony Combination. While this combination comes into full fruition when the Year of the Tiger comes around (or during the Bing Yin Luck Pillar, as discussed previously), that this interaction is a positive one indicates that Ms Toth’s husband and parents are good for her, and essentially help her to shine.
But wait! There’s more!!
… here’s something rather cool about what the chart says about Ms Toth and her spouse. The Horse located in the Day Branch / Spouse Palace is a Peach Blossom star! Having a Peach Blossom star, even if it’s not hers specifically (hers is Rabbit - I’ll talk about that in just a minute) is nice, as it indicates a degree of sexual attractiveness, charisma, X-Factor that gravitates people towards you. Having this in the Spouse Palace I think is a good indication: Ms Toth’s husband is attracted to her!
Continuing with the Peach Blossom star: Ms Toth’s own Peach Blossom star is the Rabbit. As such, whenever she goes through a period associated with the Rabbit (any Year of the Rabbit, and more importantly, a Luck Pillar with the Rabbit as its Earthly Branch), this X-Factor sexual appeal and charisma comes into play, and there is a high chance for Ms Toth to meet her spouse-to-be. [Ms Toth - did you happen to meet/marry your husband in 1999, by any chance?]
If you look again at Ms Toth’s Luck Pillars, you’ll see that during ages 40 to 49, she’ll be under the influence of her Peach Blossom star. If not already married, I’ll speculate that this is the time Ms Toth will do so. I’ll speculate further and say that this might be the time for kids too.
HOWEVER
… during Ms Toth’s Peach Blossom time, the Rabbit interacts with the Horse in the Spouse Palace in what is termed a Destruction. Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean a literal destruction of the marriage. What this specific interaction indicates is a scenario of Ms Toth turning her back on her past, her family, or her principles, manifesting in a Catch-22 situation.
Does this negate her Peach Blossom luck? Or is it because of her enhanced attractiveness and charisma during this time that problems with her husband occur? I could speculate till the cows come home and I still couldn’t confidently give you a likely scenario. All I can say is upon entering the period of ages 40-49, Ms Toth should be prepared for some rocky times in her marriage. It’s beyond my ability at this point to say more — I’ll see if my Mentor can shed some light on the matter, k?
… and on that downer, I’ll stop here, and do the summary in another post. In the meantime…
