Answers without, answers within

Pam recently wrote in requesting a Free Card Reading, citing two main questions:

Question One:  I am planning a move with my 3 year old to someplace pretty far from friends and family.  It will only be for 12 months but what will that year hold and will it be what is best for me?

Question Two:  I am also in what seems to be a never ending thing with an ex.  Is he someone I should just let go or hold onto?

While shuffling the deck with the first question in mind, the card of Hina jumped out at me. As mentioned previously, I consider cards that ‘jump out’ as providing important perspectives that need to be considered in the reading — something(s) complementary and supplementary to the actual 3-card spread. The card of Hina definitely fell in this category.

Let’s tackle the questions one at a time:

Question One: I am planning a move with my 3 year old to someplace pretty far from friends and family. It will only be for 12 months but what will that year hold and will it be what is best for me?

Spread:  3 cards  (+ 1 ‘jump out’)

‘Jump out’: Freedom (Hina)

Past: Stay Focused (Kuthumi)
Present: Father, Husband, Brother, Son (Osiris)
Future: Choose Peace (Paramahansa Yogananda)

Interpretation One:
The Goddess Hina insisted on jumping out for this reading:  she represents you breaking away from the rules and expectations of others; she reminds you that it’s well within your rights to embrace your power and do what your heart yearns to do.  Since the question is about what is in store during this “one-year-away”, I take Hina’s presence to mean that it’s an opportunity for you to get in touch with yourself, and perhaps even for you to let go, let loose, be creative, be free.

The “Past” card speaks about the immediate past in relation to the question asked. In this case, Kuthumi indicates that this one-year away-from-friends-and-family stint probably arises from your having taken the time to figure out your long-term goals, from your geting back in touch with your personal goals and desires; and that you probably had to consciously detach yourself from the short-term and immediate “noise” before you could do that needed soul-searching.

The “Present” card speaks about your question’s current status, or what you need to know / need to work on right now.  Osiris indicates that in order for the one-year-away to be successful, you might benefit from healing and releasing old wounds relating to men in your life.  Considering what Question Two is about, Osiris is probably talking about your ex!

The “Future” card speaks about what awaits you if you take the advice and walk the path indicated in the previous card. In this case, Paramahansa Yogananda speaks about there always being a peaceful alternative to conflict:  one needs to want, to consciously choose, peace. I see this to mean that upon being able to heal your male-related wounds, you are then on the way to find true inner peace. Perhaps look into meditation (see if there is a Sahaja Yoga center where you’ll be) during this one year away?

Question Two: I am also in what seems to be a never ending thing with an ex.  Is he someone I should just let go or hold onto?

Spread:  3 cards

Past: Detach from Drama (Pallas Athena)
Present: Freedom (Hina) (again!)
Future: You Are Seeing This Situation Accurately (Horus)

Interpretation Two:
The “Past” card speaks about the immediate past in relation to the question asked. In this case, Athena seems to confirm that you have been / continue to be swept up and swept away by a whole lot of drama surrounding you and your ex.  Perhaps this one-year away will provide the necessary distance needed for you to gain some perspective on this “thing” between you two?

The “Present” card speaks about your question’s current status, or what you need to know / need to work on right now.  That Hina reappears here is significant, I think: she represents breaking free, embracing your power, gaining freedom from others’ rules and expectations.  I can’t help but read this as a confirmation that this time away is what you need in order to figure out the answer.

The “Future” card speaks about what awaits you if you take the advice and walk the path indicated in the previous card.  Horus indicates that by taking the time to step away and examine the situation from afar, you will then be able to ascertain your true feelings, and you yourself will know the answer about whether your ex should be held on to, or let go.  Horus reminds you that sometimes the right decision isn’t necessarily the easy one, but once you know what to do, be steadfast, and know that even if other people may not support your decision, the Universe does.

So Pam, there you have it!  The cards indicate that your one-year-away is going to be good for you, and will probably help you to a peaceful — perhaps even spiritual — path.  Along the way, you will be able to figure things out in relation to your ex.  Don’t leave things hanging and just disappear, however — you might be advised to mend fences with your ex (and other male figures in your life) so that there’s nothing negative in the air as you embark on this new chapter of your life.
